Mobile GPS Tracking Service

November 13th, 2008 by odonata

We have great news for all of you who are tracking your impressions using J2ME phones. A new version of GPSed appeared for your devices!

Still don’t have GPSed on your device? Install GPSed Mobile for J2ME v. 3.5 and you will not regret. If GPSed is already installed on your device you can try the recent 3.5 version which we believe is even much better that the previous.

What have been changed?

Users of Sony Ericsson phones had troubles with GPSed Service before. The internal GPS receivers on this devices refused to provide the opportunity of GPS using. This bug was fixed and now people with latest Sony Ericsson phones, like Sony Ericsson JP8, could enjoy GPSed Service as well as the others.

Tracks could be exported now in GPX format (the most popular format for GPS tracks) right in GPSed application. This is also a new feature which was absent in the last versions of GPSed for J2ME phones. This was added in the track list menu as  “Export to GPX” menu item.

A new option “Keep backlight always on” was added in Settings. This option is disabled by the default. Enable it and have a backlight always on. Could be useful for people who want to conduct current speed monitoring, check current coordinates, travel distance, etc during the trip.

We have no doubts you’ll like the new version. Download it and leave your comments here.

With kind  regards,
GPSed Team

Hi, Kollamraja,
thanks for problem request!
To help you we need some additional information: What was the previous version on your device? What are you doing exactly. And finally, what error message you receive?

Hope to hear from you soon!

All the best,
GPSed Team

I now have both versions on my Nokia 6265. I’m unable to find out version information of the previous installation. But the file size shows as 224.0kB and the date of installation is 2nd November 2008.Hope that helps you identify the Version.

The file size of Ver 3.5 is 256.0kB and was installed on 23rd November 2008.

I don’t have my Bluetooth GPS with me now, but I have tracks of my trips stored in my phone.
When I use the older version of GPSed, after it says it could not find a GPS device, I can see the list of tracks as well as see Track Information.

The new Ver 3.5 shows the list of Tracks but when I try to see Track Information, I get error message,
“Unable to read track information”. I get same error when I try to export track to GPX.

I have installed version 3.5 on my Sony-Ericsson model W760a (downloaded the W760 link), but it does not connect to the GPS and does not display any GPS icon in the top bar while it says “Searching…”. When I use the built-in GPS status program, it always displays a GPS icon (looks like a little green satelite) while running. I have tried several settings with & without status program on, and with assist on & off, but always it never connects and just keeps searching. The fact that the satelite icon never appears at the top of the screen seems to indicate that GPSed is unsuccessful in even accessing the built-in GPS in the phone.
I should point out that I have a W760a model phone, which is the AT&T branded version sold by AT&T in the USA. I have not been successful in connecting with the built-in GPS with any other third party GPS program.

As far as I know, AT&T doesn’t allow 3rd party applications to use build-in GPS in phones they sell. You can try using external Bluetooth GPS instead, or switch the carrier :)

BrianZ Says:

Thanks Valery,
How do you know AT&T doesn’t allow 3rd party apps to use the GPS? Does GPSed work on a W760i? Are you aware of any W760a users who are able to use GPSed after they debranded their phone with debranding software?

Valery Says:

I don’t have any information about debranding software and I don’t know will it help you or not.
