Pedro Says:

Will this app be available for those Blackberry Handhelds through Verizon and Alltell carriers?

Thanks,

Mark_G Says:

Will your Pro Version (or any other) work with Verizon’s locked GPS? I use one of their 8330’s

Alex Says:

Unfortunately Verizon doesn’t allow 3rd party applications to use BlackBerry GPS. You can try using external Bluetooth GPS instead, or switch the carrier :)

blogx10 Says:

Well, at last you did it! I read review about GPSed for BlackBerry. That is great idea! Thanks for implementation :)

Mark_G Says:

An external Bluetooth GPS has always been able to be linked to any APP on a BB from Verizon…but in my opinion it’s a terrible idea! :-(

Resellers (Verizon) are supposed to ADD VALUE to the products they represent. The RIM products are really nice, feature rich devices. I’m surprised RIM’s licensing agreement permits Verizon to cripple them!

Anyway, Verizon doesn’t offer an APP that archives and delivers travel logs for mileage reports. They’ve defeated the GPS feature built into the product for the benefit of their one APP. My sense is there’s a better way for them to capture that revenue stream and leave the GPS for archival use of non-competing APP’s.

Earp Says:

What would be cool is to have a program like this that would update to all the diffrent GPS enabled web sites..

I’d like one program that would send my position to loopt plus gps’d and facebook and myspace. one program to do it all would be cool. I’d pay for that!

Hurr Burr Says:

Will this eventually come out for Windows Mobile?

pbuder Says:

Just tried this on the new Blackberry Storm and it works great. I wasn’t really sure what it did, just turned it on and tracked local on device while walking the dogs. Then uploaded it after creating an account. The track looks great.

Yes, GPSed Pro for Windows Mobile is in testing stage now and will be released very soon.
So, stay tuned for our news.

Matt Says:

Nice product, I can see some very useful features for myself. I have the new Blackberry Storm. The menu items aren’t as smooth functioning as they are in the Storm itself. The application crashed while in my office (high rise) where it couldn’t locate the satellites for a GPS signal. Some error handling instead of bricking the BB would be great!

Overall though, it is staying on my Storm, and I look forward to the features that the software offers. I really am looking forward to sailing season, and overlaying my races and figuring out what worked well in relation to wind directions, etc. I would like to see an average speed option between measurement points.

Is it possible to send gps reports to another map server? Your system is very good and seems to be improving all the time, but I have been using myTracking and it has some features I cant live without (geofences, SMS alerts, drive reports with addresses, etc)

Unfortunately it’s impossible to link GPSed mobile clients with other tracking web-services. GPSed is a comprehensive solution for mobile GPS tracking and managing tracks on a map.

But we plan to launch GPSed Monitoring service in the early of 2009. Higher versions of GPSed Monitoring will allow to trace mobile objects with features that you got accustomed to use: alerts, geofencing and a lot of more. Stay tuned for GPSed Blog.

Dan Says:

Can anyone help me with GPSed on my BB 8330.
Once installed it worked once. Never again.
I purchased the Pro Version and It will not accept my license Key. Tech support has been worthless up to this point.

Please forward you correspondence with GPSed support to feedback@gpsed.com and we will examine your problem.

Mark_G Says:

Matt, are you (and your Storm) using Verizon?

Mark_G Says:

Dan, I have a 8330 from Verizon and it’s locked down. The only thing I’ve found that sort of works is Google maps and that will only identify the general vacinity you’re in giving you an overview of local area and its streets…no tracking or directions.

Dan Says:

My GPSed installed on BB 8330 is an alltel phone.
From what I understand it is not locked. It worked the first time I used it after I installed it but never worked again. I have never been able to get my license key to work. They keep saying to send them a log from the support option. I dont’ see a support option. Does anyone else see a way to send a log file?

Dan Says:

Where the saga continues. My emails are now being reject by the GPSed servers. Unbelievable..
Still no help.
I emailed from the post above.
Below is the rejected email.
It says files too large…. I didn’t send a file.
What is going to happen next? My BB going to explode?

Chris Says:

Is there a preferred connection method for the Sprint BB 8830s? While I’m able to record and later upload a track via PC, I have yet to get real-time tracking to work more then a couple of seconds. I noticed that the instructions say after two failed connection errors occur the software defaults back to writing to file. It would seem to make more sense to me that it would instead simply continue on once the connection is re-established? This maybe my problem since I live in a hilly area with spotty data connectivity (particularly when I’m driving).

I’ve noticed other odd technical bugs too. Such as scrolling back to my list of track files and seeing a message that says “no tracks” (or something like that). But if I reboot the phone, they re-appear.

Chris Says:

Overall, pretty cool program. Some suggestions:

- Have a simple tracking mode where if I just turn the thing on, it starts streaming my location to Google Earth as an icon, maybe with a minute or so of track history w/o requiring the user having to enter title, description, connect preferences etc. In other words, in this mode, I’m not storing saved tracks or geo-tagging photos, I’m just publishing my location to the world. The example use case is that I want to get in the car and not think about starting or configuring the app, or even creating a new track, it just starts posting.

- Have GPSed handle disconnects more gracefully. If a network disconnect occurs, once it reconnects it immediately updates the online track with the latest position info but in the background begins back filling track history that what was missed. As opposed to just defaulting back to file mode and giving up after two connection issues.

- In the track file list page, have an icon to represent the state for when the track is auto uploading to GPSed.com in real time. Or maybe have a heartbeat indicator every time it auto publishes.
