Mobile GPS Tracking Service

August 20th, 2008 by Valery

Several days ago we have updated GPSed Mobile Application for Blackberry version 1.0. This is not a beta-release version now, at last. In this update several bugs were fixed and two features were added:

  1. Possibility to turn on/off backlight right from GPSed application. Could be useful for people who want to conduct current speed monitoring, check current coordinates, travel distance, etc during the trip.
  2. Now it is possible to use “Reset GPS” function in Settings which drops current connection to GPS and starts this procedure from scratch. The feature was added after users’ requests.
  3. In last versions users encountered with difficulties in tracks uploading on the GPSed.com website. Now this bug was fixed!
  4. Wrong conversion in GPX format was also fixed in last version of GPSed for Blackberry.

To download a new version please follow this link or point your Blackberry browser to wap.gpsed.com and follow the instructions.

Looking  forward to your comments and improvement suggestions!

Did you try to use latest version GPSed for BlackBerry v1.01 ?

Anyway, I believe most of broken tracks was created by GPSed ver. 0.999(1), was corrupted. So many of tracks created by 0.999 version
of application can’t be uploaded to server, unfortunately. It doesn’t matter if you are using ver 1.0 or even 1.01 right now - ‘.gpsed’ files created by v0.999 has format-error inside. Tracks created by latest versions 1.0 (or 1.01) should be uploaded correctly to our web site (from your PC).

If you have corrupted tracks created by v.0.999(1) and those tracks is very important for you please send to support@gpsed.com this files and we will try to recover tracking data manually.

I am running BB version 1.01 and i must say the app has so much potential but falls way short of expectation:
* can’t upload. Only about the 1st minute works using the upload to GPSED.com feature.
* compass rotation while not moving. A track should be recorded only if Lat/Lon/Alt is different from prior point
* why dows gpsed.com website show others tracks when i look at mine? I dont want to see others (or maybe i do) - give me the option.
* my altitude is a negative number - why?
* facebook posting not working
* why not straight to KMZ with embeded image?

i’ve looked at other apps avail and even bought a couple from handango - they are not anywhere near as potential as gpsed, but too many bugs and frustrations will keep key users away.

FYI, BB Bold 9000

Please fix it.

We are working about such option and it will be available in nearest future.

* my altitude is a negative number - why?
Because altitude shows your elevation above sea level, and of course it can be negative.

There seems to be a negative altitude bug in the blackberry software for the 8800s, 8300s and 9000s, possibly other models too.

The blackberry’s have no internal compass and no consumer GPS is good enough to know if you are stationary. You could guess if you are stationary, say if the distance moved is less than 5m in the last 20 seconds or something to that effect, although I’m sure there is a more clever way to do this.
