Mobile GPS Tracking Service

A new version of GPSed for Windows Mobile contain many new features and improvements. Algorithm of waypoint creation was improved greatly! In the previous version the waypoint was created when “OK” button is pressed. As a result of a high speed of your movement you can create a waypoint which is situated on some distance from waypoint you wanted to create. This happened because users have spent some time for waypoint name entering. In the current version of GPSed waypoint will be created when the appropriate menu item is selected. This is exactly the moment which users need.

The trouble of the wrong displaying of the track recording time was fixed in 2.1.5 version.  Distance calculation is more precise now! There are also many other fixes which we believe will bring you much pleasure. The most important characteristic of this version is Pro functionality.

In the previous posts we informed you that GPSed Pro version for BlackBerry phones has been released. Now we are happy to announce that GPSed Pro version for PocketPC and Smartphone is coming out! With GPSed Pro mobile application we tried to cover all your requirements. Pro version include several new features which make GPS tracking process more convenient.

All features that you have already got accustomed to use in GPSed free basic version you will find in Pro, but new features make GPSed Pro really efficient. Pro features for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile handhelds are nearly the same:

  • Lifetime support via e-mail. Our technical specialists will provide you with all necessary information and help you to solve any problems with GPSed Pro version.
  • “SOS” button for instant position alerts over SMS. Wherever you are you can instantly notify your friends or relatives about your current position via SMS. They will receive a link to the page with your position on a map. Your device must have phone module!
  • Live tracking with small time intervals (up to 3 seconds). If you want to share your real-time position this feature is for you. GPSed Pro can work over TCP/IP, that allows to update your position during tracking really often and minimize mobile traffic consumptions.

We are planning to implement even more features in Pro version in future updates. Please find below comparing table of GPSed basic and Pro version at the moment:

Just upgraded to 2.1.5 on my mobile having tried the last version for a couple of weeks. It seemd to work fine and allow my wife to track my location when out on the bike except that after a few miles I get an error message saying ‘unable to connect to upgrade server’ and have to click ok to clear it. The program terminates shortly after and the track is not completed. Any ideas what is happening or is this intentional?

Thanks for your feedback, we will examine the problem you described.
How often does this problem appear, regularly or occasionally?
Could you enumerate exact sequence of operations that brings to the problem?

Bob Says:

Fine Valery

I have the program set up on a Samsung SGH-i900 (Omnia) running Windows 6.1.

The sequence of events seems to be as follows (over the next few days I’ll try and get it in more detail):

Start the program. do not continue a previous track. Do not log to facebook etc. Set to update the live position and set to 1 minute interval.

The program finds satellites very quickly and appears to be logging ok (I usually start it on the mobile outside he house and then set the live track on the screen of my computer so that live updates can be seen continually).

Off we go!

At some point during a bike ride (no particular distance or time that I have noted) the program comes up with the message about the upgrade server and when I click ok the message clears. Normally at this point the mobile continues to show the program running on the screen for a few minutes and then the screen shuts off. Arriving back or checking later I find that the program has terminated.

I thought originally it was related to the upgrade server message but today the message came on and I didn’t clear it and the tracking continued. When I got home the program was still in memory. Over the next few days I’ll try a couple of combinations and see if I can reliably re-create the problem so you can investigate it more easily.

have a good Christmas

Bob

Thanks again for your detailed feedback.
Could you please let us know what GPSed version do you use: GPSed Pro or GPSed Basic?

It is possible that your device is coming to sleep mode, and that causes all problems. In order to fix this you can try to enable “Prevent automatic power down” option in Settings of GPSed Mobile Application.

Bob Says:

Hi Valery

I have GPSed Basic at the moment. The ‘prevent automatic power down’ is ticked in settings already. The device does switch off the screen but is still working as far as I can tell - I’ll try with it both off and on and see if that affects the problem

Thanks for your reply

all the best

Hi.
I can not run the GPSed 2.1.5 on my Asus P535.
The program cannot find any GPS receiver hardware.
Any suggestions ?
Regards.

The GPSed implicitly uses the settings as specified in the “GPS” or “External GPS” applet in Start Menu->Settings. Please find this applet and open it.

You will see three tabs: “Programs”, “Hardware” and “Access”. Please backup or note-down all the settings before attempting to change them.

Once that is done, try out the following settings (please note that we do not personally own an ASUS P535 and these settings are our suggestion):

1. In “Programs”, set “GPS Program Port” to GPD1.

2. In “Hardware”, set “GPS Hardware Port” to COM2, and “Baud Rate” to 4800.

3. In “Access”, make sure the “Manage GPS automatically” is checked/enabled.

4. Run GPSed Mobile Application and GPS should function properly. If this doesn’t happen, run new GPS search procedure choosing “Settings” -> “Change GPS Receiver” menu item.
