Mobile GPS Tracking Service

February 8th, 2008 by Valery

Existing users of GPSed get ready for the good news!

SHAPE Services has updated the service. New features including waypoints, track descriptions and comments were added.

SHAPE Services listened to the requests of GPSed users and added the following features in the updated version:

  • Waypoints with geotagged notes.
Any traveler recording a track with GPSed may stop at a point of interest and add a waypoint with a small note to remember the exact place. The waypoint will immediately appear on the track for further reference and for sharing with others.
  • Track description.
Users of GPSed may include personal descriptions of the track to help remember the details of the trip. Track description adds an element of interaction for others to learn the details of the trip.
  • Track Comments.
Anyone may experience more elements of a social network by leaving a comment of a track for others to view. A discussion thread about a certain track may grow a considerable community of GPS, mobile and digital camera users.
  • Country identification.
GPSed users will know the country where they had started the trip and the country where they had finished it. User’s location is identified automatically and displayed in GPSed conveniently.
  • Account registration from mobile.
Any unregistered user may download GPSed mobile client from wap.gpsed.com and register an account right from the device.

I’ve downloaded GPSED on my blackberry (Curve) and I use it daily. The application on my blackberry however is not working correctly. I receive Java script “Null” messages when exiting the app, afterwards I need to remove the app and reinstall it to have it work again. Also if I try to start a new track it sometimes uses the data of a former track again.

What version of GPSed application do you use?
GPSed service and mobile applications are in a Beta stage now, so we appreciate any comments and recommendations regarding the service.

BTW: we recommend to upgrade GPSed software up to the latest version. It is much more stable than prevoius ones.

New versions for all mobile platforms (J2ME, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile) will be released in a few weeks. So, stay tuned.

I am having the same error when I exit the app on my blackberry pearl 8100. I have only been able to get the application to track on a few occassions and have not been able to record any tracks. I have sent in a couple of feedback e-mails just the other day and received a specific response and request for more information. It looks like these guys are serious about solving the glitches.
