Mobile GPS Tracking Service

Here we want to share with you our joy concerning GPSed website update. Now you can use a new “Map Toolbar” which we believe will make your work with GPSed easier. The toolbar itself is nice and useful. In this post we’ll describe you how it works in details.

The toolbar appears on each GPSed page containing maps (e.g. on the track’s page, on the GPSed Map page, on user’s profile page, etc). Every time you work with a map on GPSed you can switch on/off all the layers using the new toolbar.

You can see how it works by yourself. Go to GPSed Map page and start selecting different layers:

  Show/hide Popular GPSed tracks

Select this layer and popular GPSed tracks will be resembled on the map. This option is not new but now you can easily switch it off. By default the layer “Popular GPSed tracks” is disabled in order to speed up map loading. Read one of our older posts “Discover GPSed tracks from worldwide easily!” for more information about “Popular GPSed tracks” layer. Using this layer you’ll search public tracks by other users all over the world without any difficulties. You can select an area which is most interested for you at the moment and find existing tracks by other users there.

Show/hide Panoramio photos

The layer “Panoramio photos” have been improved recently. Now these photos are loading faster, the number of photos was greatly increased and the most popular photos are displaying bigger than the others. Now you can easily search popular and nice photos all over the world!

  Show/hide Wikipedia articles

This option is absolutely new, it could be compared with “Panoramio photos”.  Here instead of photos you can find Wikipedia articles on the map. Wikipedia layer helps to get additional information on locality you are interested in. Use this layer and improve your knowledge, learn more about places from where your tracks originated.

Show/hide track markers

With this toolbar button you can switch on/off all track markers: start and finish of the track (for ordinary and semi-transparent tracks), waypoint and photo markers. In some cases such markers could be a bit distracting and overlap some of the track points. Use the button to see GPSed tracks “clean”, without any additional information.

Show/hide national flags with useful information

Using the new map toolbar you can switch on/off the flags of each country on a map. We recommend you to read one of the past posts in GPSed Blog under the title “Explore the world, explore the countries“.

You can also change a map type on the toolbar (map view, satellite view, etc). For registered users map type and set of selected layers is saving  while you change them. During the next entries you will find the toolbar the same as you finished your previous session on GPSed.

And finally, geo-searching feature in also included in the new map toolbar. The post about geo-searching feature is coming soon!

Please visit GPSed and try a new map toolbar by yourself! We have no doubts you enjoy this upgrade. As always, we will be happy to know your opinion about this upgrade. Leave your comments and share your impressions with us.

All the best,
GPSed Team
