Mobile GPS Tracking Service

May 27th, 2008 by Valery

We are constantly working on improving our Service and along with adding important and demanded by a lot of our users functionality, we are trying to add a little easier but still an interesting functionality.

Let’s name the most interesting features added in the latest updates:

  • Redesigned and much improved Track Searching. Now you can search tracks by country, author, date, search only in Featured Tracks, search only tracks with photos, etc. Besides, search results can be sorted by different criteria, for instance, by creation date, by the attached photos count, by number of views, etc.
  • Ability to choose between measurement units was added. To use this option just login to your account at GPSed.com, press Settings and select the desired measurement unit. Note: the measurement unit on the website is not related to the measurement unit in the application.

  • Uploading of PLT files is now available. Now users of Garmin GPS don’t have to convert their tracks to GPX format. Instead of this they can upload tracks directly to our server from a PLT file.
  • While viewing tracks in Google Earth (exporting to KML format) the track will include attached photos. Viewing tracks in Google Earth is much more interesting now.
  • Waypoint support while importing GPX files was added. Now waypoints will appear on the imported tracks which you specified in your Garmin GPS or other compatible GPS modules.
  • Displaying saved Picasa / Flickr account with an ability to reset it. That means that now you can attach photos from different Picasa/Flickr accounts to one track.

It is only a small part of those improvements that were made. Even more changes and enhancements we have planned and they will be realized in the nearest future. So stay tuned!

Hello.

My GPS device (a Routee 2000 from China) does not define its devide name when I am saving tracks.

Is it posibble to add a feature so it is possible to change from “undefined” to an own specified name in the future?

Best regards, and thanks for a great site!
Yours,
Daniel Berg

Dear Berg,

Thank you for your great idea. Could you send at support@gpsed.com exact files with your tracks which you’re trying to upload to our server? We’ll investigate the possibility to determine GPS Device name automatically.

Anyway, we’ll think about adding the feature which will allows our users to change GPS Device name manually.

I enjoyed your writing style and I’ve added you to my Reader. Keep these posts coming.
