Mobile GPS Tracking Service

July 18th, 2008 by Valery

We’ve been planning to support widgets which would enable inserting a map from your current location directly to your web site or blog for a long time. And now we finally finished the development and testing!

Please welcome the GPSed Widgets of the current user location:

This widget allows your site or blog visitors to view on Google Maps your current location in real-time! You can start GPSed Mobile Application on your mobile device and start tracking, and your site visitors will follow your way in real-time on the map.

Does it sound interesting to you? Then enter a page of your current location as http://gpsed.com/whereis/<Username>, for example http://gpsed.com/whereis/hitman, copy your widget code and insert it to your site or blog.

You can also configure your widget parameters, such as map width and height and the title of the widget.

Besides location widgets we plan to implement track widgets for GPSed users in the nearest time. With this option an ability to display your GPSed tracks on Google Maps, including LIVE tracks on your site or blog will appear.

If you got interested with such functionality, leave your comments in this thread. All ideas and suggestions for widgets improvement are welcome.

GPSed Mobile Application is available for Nokia N95 since the beginning. You can download latest version by following the link I mentioned above and use LIVE tracking.

Lognes Says:

Thanks for your help, when will you get the altitude showing in the map? I mean with the lines from the ground til the plain? Now we only see the vertical lines. Hope to hear soon from you!

We are planning to implement Track Altitude Profile feature in future updates, if that’s what you mean.
Please keep an eye on our updates.

Tnx Bye.

everything seems to be working fine on my install. I wish the code could be tweeked a little, maybe using flash or something. I like it though. Thanks again!!

It would be great if you exposed our current location and/or tracks as a KML or GeoRSS feed so that it can be used in other ways. For example, I’d like to mashup this data with Yahoo Pipes for my site. I know you can download a static snapshot of this data but I’m looking for a URL where I can dynamically pull a current feed.

Thanks!
Alan

Thanks for your feedback. We will investigate a possibility to implement GeoRSS in future updates.

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!
