Mobile GPS Tracking Service

Unlike many of our readers, we ain’t on vacation on these summer days. Our precious developers are working hard and they have just rolled out an update of GPSed.com. What’s new:

  • We’ve noticed that there is a common situation when someone posts a comment, asking track author about something interesting regarding the track. Author replies, but the reply is rarely seen, as there were no reply notifications. Now you can receive e-mail notifications when someone posts a reply to your comment. Of course you can always unsubscribe from reply notifications.

Comment subscriptions

  • Now you can choose your time zone on settings page. Since then, all times on the service will be displayed according to the time zone you’ve chosen.
  • My favorite: search now shows 10 tracks per page instead of 5.
  • Clicking photo markers on map allows you to browse through the photos with next/prev buttons.

Looking  forward to your comments and improvement suggestions!

As I said in an other post; great improvements for a already great software!

There is one thing I’m missing. Categories. I went to the USA this summer and I’d like to collect all the trackings I did in one place for easy access. Is this something you are planning to do?

Kyrre,

We’re missing this feature too :) It’s in our roadmap. I think we’ll implement it on some rainy Autumn day.

Great service! I like it :)

But I have some bug description.
Many photos in my flickr album already have gps data in its EXIF. I want to keep this data when I attach my photos to track. But now it’s imposible. GPSed.com replace this data by its owns.
However when I use the Picasa Webalbums, all is ok.

snaky Says:

Oh, I’ve understood why this problem take a place.
Flickr remove EXIF data from photos! But it store it separately.
For example, EXIF data from the photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/y_snaky/2730362887/in/set-72157606529898594/ is stored here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/y_snaky/2730362887/meta/in/set-72157606529898594

It will be perfect if you read this data for attached photos ;)

P.S. Sorry for my English :)

snaky Says:

And more bug/feature request :)
A photo on Flickr have title and description. Title is important. Description is optional. However GPSed read only description when attach photo. IMHO reading title is more correctly.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
We know about this “feature” of Flickr with coordinates. We will try to examine this problem and if we succeed, I will let you know.
Concerning photos’ title, we are going to support it in the future updates. Thanks again.

The mileage using the imperial units is way off compared to the acutal odometer mileage. 15 real miles equals about 24 Gpsed miles. This is a major bug. Any fix, Its not just me I read it occurs on the blackberry forums. Using 8830 and freedom bluetooth GPS reciever.

Thanks for your report. We will investigate a problem and try to fix it in future updates.

Bob Fabian Says:

Heres more info for my problem. The mileage on the track once uploaded to GPSed appears correct, 47 and is accurate. However the display odometer in the program is off by factor of 1.6, so for this trip my car odometer is saying 75 miles.

Bob,

does it also happen in 0.999? We’ve checked and it seems the issue is not there anymore.

I’ve decide my problem. Flickr has some settings for read gps data for geotagging. After this setting, I’ve attached photos with gps data successfully.
But there is other problem :) The photos that have gps data have wrong taken date after attaching. Its have uploaded date instead of taken date.
You can see it in the track: http://gpsed.com/track/470636419925386253#photos

alex Says:

snaky,

We’ll check that. Seems to be a bug somewhere. BTW, the photos of the track are just great :)

Nice features were added.
Now I can choose my time zone at once and all my settings will be bound exactly to my time zone! that’s wonderful!
