Mobile GPS Tracking Service

Here we are going to discuss some small changes in GPSed Mobile Application for J2ME phones.  Upgrade to a new version of GPSed (3.6) and you will get an application which was improved. Recently we notices a small bug which is already fixed by our developers in the recent version. The bug appeared when users converted their tracks in GPX format. After that the track points were reflected in 12-h format (ex. the time was 10.32 instead of 22.32). This caused some strange tracking results (ex. the track started at 11.04 AM and finished at 03.55 AM, the same day).

We hope this was useful for those of you who have GPSed installed on J2ME phones.

Yours sincerely,
GPSed Team

For the last few days GPSed.com users may have noticed considerable performance issues. These problems were caused by the increased userbase, and we had to scale the system up to match it. We are happy to announce GPSed.com is back to life after major upgrade, and should be faster than ever. Thank you for your support and patience.

We are sorry for any incoveniences brought by this downtime. We’ll do our best to avoid it in the future.

In one of our previous posts we informed our users that GPSed Mobile Application appeared in App Store.

The application was very awaited by those users who were already familiar with GPSed on BlackBerry, Windows Mobile or Java phones. Now GPSed also became popular among iPhone users, those who have never tried it before.

In a new version (1.1) which is recently available in App Store we tried to take into account all suggestions and comments by our users.

What’s new in the current version of GPSed for iPhone?

    Imperial units support.

Waypoints can be added now in offline mode, and then synchronized back to server.

Long tracks are no more being lost on exit.

    Tracking restarts after phone calls.

Added button and browser for GPSed.com navigation.

Some fixes for proper track point saving.

New updates of GPSed for iPhone are also expected. We hope GPSed will bring you much pleasure. Wish you unforgettable trips and exciting adventures!

Kind regards,
GPSed Team

As usual we are trying to improve GPSed service to make it even more useful and convenient for our users.

Now we have updated cities database and also algorithm of locality determination was changed. After such changes the locality determination became even more precise.

How it could be useful?

Now you can get more detailed information on your tracks or the tracks by other users. Open you track, click on the track line and choose “Track info“.

Get an information on the country and locality where the track was started and where it was finished.

The track could be started in one country and finished in the other:

Or started and finished in the same country but in different localities:

Learn more about your tracks and the tracks by other users now in more details.

In one of the previous posts we have announced GPSed Monitoring Service for tracking mobile objects on a map in a real-time. Now some new options were added.

  • Disable Google Map overview

When this option is activated a mini map will not be visible on every Google Map of our service.

  • New tracks by your subaccounts are private by the default

All tracks by your subaccounts are private by the default even if their status was “public” when the track was started in a mobile client. The status of your subaccounts tracks could be always changed on “public” manually.

At the moment GPSed Monitoring Service is available for a free beta-testing. Register with a trial account and get free unlimited access for 30 days. Create up to 50 subaccounts to try out the service. Beta testing is open until the end of February, hurry up!

As GPSed Monitoring is a rather new service we are waiting for your feedback. Leave your comments and help us to improve our service, to make it better!

With kind regards,

Here is what Ross Rubin (Director, Industry Analysis and one of a judges) said about GPSed Mobile Application:

“What makes GPSed especially suited for use in cars? Using GPSed mobile application, you do not need any special expensive in-car monitors, all you need is handheld with Internet connection and application installed. Using GPSed, you can write tracks that visually are more beautiful than usual tracks. Besides, tracks may be longer because user can charge device’s battery right inside the car.
Making photos along the trip, its easy to download them directly to GPSed online archive.
Let’s imagine you’re moving across the territory of United Kingdom and your family in Sweden can see your trip pictures exactly in the moment when you stored them. Isn’t it amazing?”
