In the beginning of the year many of our users are starting to plan their trips in a beautiful places of the world. Don’t forget to take a camera with you to make nice pictures. Also don’t forget to take a device with GPSed mobile application installed. Track your trips and share your impressions with the others!

As usual we are trying to make the process of tracking more convenient for you. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, troubles or suggestions. We’ll do our best to solve all your problems together with you!

Today we would like to discuss “GPS filtering” feature. Many GPSed users are sending us e-mails and asking to describe what is “GPS filtering“.

This option allows you to filter the tracks points of low significance. Where is this option located on your device? It is located here: Menu > Settings > Track recording > GPS filtering.

Several modes of GPS filtering are available:

  • Low (by the default);
  • High;
  • Disabled (no filtering).

Taking this modes into consideration you can regulate the ratio of the track quality and the file size. The filtering could be changed directly during track recording.

When the filter is switched off (Disabled) the user receive the most accurate track. Using this mode you’ll get the track file of the larger size. “Disables” GPS filtering mode is recommended when your route has frequent and sudden changes of the direction or when you would like to obtain a track of a maximal accuracy.

Normally it is recommended to use “Low” mode of GPS filtering. In that case you are able to have a compromise between accuracy of the track and the file size.

High” mode is recommended in situation when you are flying on air liner or something like that.High” mode is a maximal possible reduction of the track points amount. Track points reduction makes the traffic less when you upload the track on server and saves battery life. “Low” mode is also designated to reduce the track points although less than “High” mode.

We hope you’ve received some new and useful knowledge about GPSed Service.

Have any questions? Leave your comments and don’t hesitate to contact us!

Yours sincerely,

Here we would like to describe a way how to access track files on your BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Java devices.
When a track recorded it’s always stored on your mobile device. This file may have .gpsed or .gpx extension if you exported it in .gpx format.

Many users have difficulties when they need to find track files directly on their mobile devices. We want to explain you how to find track files and how to upload them on your computer.

Lets start from BlackBerry handhelds. By the default for every BlackBerry device these files are stored in a phone’s memory by the following path: “store/home/user/”. A user could change it and save the track files here “SDCard/BlackBerry/gpsed/”.

For Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone.  First find a track name in Menu.  All tracks are stored in the system folder “Application Data/GPSed”. To copy track files on a desktop from your device use ActiveSync application.

In Java version find “Send via Bluetooth” option in Menu to upload track on your desktop. Please note that this works only for .gpsed files. If you have converted your track to standard .gpx format you can find the track files in the file system. The application will save track files on a Memory Card in the root folder. If Memory Card is absent, the application will save track files to the “Device Memory”, here several options exist:

  •   SonyEricsson will save files in /Other folder
  •   For other devices (Nokia S60, etc) .gpx files are stored by the following path C:/My files/Images/

We hope you will find our tips useful. For any questions and suggestions please leave you comments here.

Have a nice winter holidays!

Sincerely yours,
GPSed Team

A new version of GPSed for Windows Mobile contain many new features and improvements. Algorithm of waypoint creation was improved greatly! In the previous version the waypoint was created when “OK” button is pressed. As a result of a high speed of your movement you can create a waypoint which is situated on some distance from waypoint you wanted to create. This happened because users have spent some time for waypoint name entering. In the current version of GPSed waypoint will be created when the appropriate menu item is selected. This is exactly the moment which users need.

The trouble of the wrong displaying of the track recording time was fixed in 2.1.5 version.  Distance calculation is more precise now! There are also many other fixes which we believe will bring you much pleasure. The most important characteristic of this version is Pro functionality.

In the previous posts we informed you that GPSed Pro version for BlackBerry phones has been released. Now we are happy to announce that GPSed Pro version for PocketPC and Smartphone is coming out! With GPSed Pro mobile application we tried to cover all your requirements. Pro version include several new features which make GPS tracking process more convenient.

All features that you have already got accustomed to use in GPSed free basic version you will find in Pro, but new features make GPSed Pro really efficient. Pro features for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile handhelds are nearly the same:

  • Lifetime support via e-mail. Our technical specialists will provide you with all necessary information and help you to solve any problems with GPSed Pro version.
  • “SOS” button for instant position alerts over SMS. Wherever you are you can instantly notify your friends or relatives about your current position via SMS. They will receive a link to the page with your position on a map. Your device must have phone module!
  • Live tracking with small time intervals (up to 3 seconds). If you want to share your real-time position this feature is for you. GPSed Pro can work over TCP/IP, that allows to update your position during tracking really often and minimize mobile traffic consumptions.

We are planning to implement even more features in Pro version in future updates. Please find below comparing table of GPSed basic and Pro version at the moment:

Key Features

Basic version

And again we have nice news for WM audience! New update of GPSed for Windows Mobile v. 2.1.4 is small but useful. In this update we included several bug fixes. Now we really hope you won’t have any more troubles with Internet connection, ocasional stop of the track when uploading it on the server, sharing the tracks to the Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc) and preventing automatic power down. The latest version is available for free download.

Thank you all for so many comments and questions we’ve got last week. As usual, we are happy to help and here we are with one of the answers.

Today we’ll discuss the most frequently asked questions on the COM-ports and internal GPS settings. On the page “View ->Track Details” you can get data on the current connection. The field “GPS Receiver” has the following meanings:

  • “GPSID” means that the programm is configured to work with the GPS receiver via GPS Intermediate Driver (GPSID). This way of working is possible only if the OS version of your mobile device is => 5.0 and GPSID is configured to work with the embedded or standalone receiver. Please note: this scenario is default.
  • “COMX” means that the program is configured to work with a GPS receiver directly through the COM-port, where X is the number of COM-port which is configured.
  • Selecting “Menu -> Settings -> Change GPS Receiver” an attempt to connect to GPSID is happening. If the data from GPS is obtained the user start using GPSID for the work with a GPS receiver. Otherwise the search of the GPS data source via COM-port is carried out. In that case you have to select appropriate source in the list of discovered sources.

You can also find a useful post under the title “Blackjack II GPS… ACTIVATED“.

As usual we are waiting for your feedback!

    Sincerely yours,
    GPSed Team

Enjoy the new look and new features of GPSed for PocketPC and Smartphone!

We are happy to announce a new GPSed update for Windows Mobile-based devices! You can easily compare its interface with the previous version and we hope you’ll find the recent one more attractive.

We’re sorry to keep the WM audience waiting for a bit more time than BlackBerry and J2ME users. But still, the new look&feel is here and we like it very much. And yes, it’s the most important part of this update.

Another nice feature we have here is “track autopause“. Now the track pauses automatically if you decide to stop for a while. Every time you take a break, you don’t need to stop the track by yourself. Moreover, your WM-based device can be now prevented to enter the sleep mode, if you want to keep it on all the time. All this features customizable via application Settings.

This update also includes several dozens bug fixes which we believe will make your GPSed experience trouble-free and more enjoyable. We highly recommend you to download the latest version. And keep us informed on your experience!

    Yours,
    GPSed Team
