Mobile GPS Tracking Service

Here we are going to discuss some small changes in GPSed Mobile Application for J2ME phones.  Upgrade to a new version of GPSed (3.6) and you will get an application which was improved. Recently we notices a small bug which is already fixed by our developers in the recent version. The bug appeared when users converted their tracks in GPX format. After that the track points were reflected in 12-h format (ex. the time was 10.32 instead of 22.32). This caused some strange tracking results (ex. the track started at 11.04 AM and finished at 03.55 AM, the same day).

We hope this was useful for those of you who have GPSed installed on J2ME phones.

Yours sincerely,
GPSed Team

In the beginning of the year many of our users are starting to plan their trips in a beautiful places of the world. Don’t forget to take a camera with you to make nice pictures. Also don’t forget to take a device with GPSed mobile application installed. Track your trips and share your impressions with the others!

As usual we are trying to make the process of tracking more convenient for you. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, troubles or suggestions. We’ll do our best to solve all your problems together with you!

Today we would like to discuss “GPS filtering” feature. Many GPSed users are sending us e-mails and asking to describe what is “GPS filtering“.

This option allows you to filter the tracks points of low significance. Where is this option located on your device? It is located here: Menu > Settings > Track recording > GPS filtering.

Several modes of GPS filtering are available:

  • Low (by the default);
  • High;
  • Disabled (no filtering).

Taking this modes into consideration you can regulate the ratio of the track quality and the file size. The filtering could be changed directly during track recording.

When the filter is switched off (Disabled) the user receive the most accurate track. Using this mode you’ll get the track file of the larger size. “Disables” GPS filtering mode is recommended when your route has frequent and sudden changes of the direction or when you would like to obtain a track of a maximal accuracy.

Normally it is recommended to use “Low” mode of GPS filtering. In that case you are able to have a compromise between accuracy of the track and the file size.

High” mode is recommended in situation when you are flying on air liner or something like that.High” mode is a maximal possible reduction of the track points amount. Track points reduction makes the traffic less when you upload the track on server and saves battery life. “Low” mode is also designated to reduce the track points although less than “High” mode.

We hope you’ve received some new and useful knowledge about GPSed Service.

Have any questions? Leave your comments and don’t hesitate to contact us!

Here we would like to describe a way how to access track files on your BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Java devices.
When a track recorded it’s always stored on your mobile device. This file may have .gpsed or .gpx extension if you exported it in .gpx format.

Many users have difficulties when they need to find track files directly on their mobile devices. We want to explain you how to find track files and how to upload them on your computer.

Lets start from BlackBerry handhelds. By the default for every BlackBerry device these files are stored in a phone’s memory by the following path: “store/home/user/”. A user could change it and save the track files here “SDCard/BlackBerry/gpsed/”.

For Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone.  First find a track name in Menu.  All tracks are stored in the system folder “Application Data/GPSed”. To copy track files on a desktop from your device use ActiveSync application.

In Java version find “Send via Bluetooth” option in Menu to upload track on your desktop. Please note that this works only for .gpsed files. If you have converted your track to standard .gpx format you can find the track files in the file system. The application will save track files on a Memory Card in the root folder. If Memory Card is absent, the application will save track files to the “Device Memory”, here several options exist:

  •   SonyEricsson will save files in /Other folder
  •   For other devices (Nokia S60, etc) .gpx files are stored by the following path C:/My files/Images/

We hope you will find our tips useful. For any questions and suggestions please leave you comments here.

Have a nice winter holidays!

Sincerely yours,
GPSed Team

We have great news for all of you who are tracking your impressions using J2ME phones. A new version of GPSed appeared for your devices!

Still don’t have GPSed on your device? Install GPSed Mobile for J2ME v. 3.5 and you will not regret. If GPSed is already installed on your device you can try the recent 3.5 version which we believe is even much better that the previous.

What have been changed?

Users of Sony Ericsson phones had troubles with GPSed Service before. The internal GPS receivers on this devices refused to provide the opportunity of GPS using. This bug was fixed and now people with latest Sony Ericsson phones, like Sony Ericsson JP8, could enjoy GPSed Service as well as the others.

Tracks could be exported now in GPX format (the most popular format for GPS tracks) right in GPSed application. This is also a new feature which was absent in the last versions of GPSed for J2ME phones. This was added in the track list menu as  “Export to GPX” menu item.

A new option “Keep backlight always on” was added in Settings. This option is disabled by the default. Enable it and have a backlight always on. Could be useful for people who want to conduct current speed monitoring, check current coordinates, travel distance, etc during the trip.

We have no doubts you’ll like the new version. Download it and leave your comments here.

With kind  regards,
GPSed Team

Recently you’ve heard here about GPSed version 3.2 for Java phones. And we did not force you to wait long for a new version - please find here a new release of GPSed for Java Phones ver. 3.3

What’s new is this release?

  • Now our users with Java phones can view the track list being not connected to GPS device.
  • In the newest update in Settings menu the item Autopause was added with the following values: 1 km/h, 2 km/h, 3 km/h, 5 km/h, 10 km/h . “Km/h” could be easily changed in Measurement Unit on km/h, kts or mph. The option is disabled by the default.
If the movement speed is less than in Settings -> Autopause the track will be temporary paused. User doesn’t need to press Pause Tracking, this will be done automatically. The track will be automatically resumed when the required speed values are obtained. This speed values should be higher than in Settings -> Autopause.
  • And also, we are using a new formula to measure track distance which makes your results more accurate.
  • Finally, track sharing in Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc became a little bit easier.

We hope the new version will bring you much pleasure! Download the new version and share your thoughts with us!

Kind regards,
GPSed Team
