Mobile GPS Tracking Service

November 28th, 2008 by odonata

If you have already uploaded tracks at GPSed.com you can organize them in online archive as you wish. To make various changes in your track list open the Map page. Find a track you need in “Search” tab, click on it and your track will appear in the list of opened tracks.

Select “My tracks” link and you will see all tracks recorded and uploaded by you. Open tracks that you want to edit, press “Actions” in” Opened Tracks” tab and change the status of your track from “public” to “private”, delete or rename the track, export to other format, attach photos, etc.

There is also another way to delete your tracks or make other changes. Click on a track line directly on a map and pop-up menu will appear. Here you can also delete your track in “Actions” menu. You can delete your track from the Map page and also from the Track page. This works only for your own tracks, you can’t delete tracks of other users.

Keep your track list in order and make changes you like.

In anticipation of your comments,

Sincerely,
GPSed Team.

We always keep our users updated on the latest public tracks which just appeared. These tracks could be easily found on the main page of GPSed website.

Now we have improved this feature. Instead of latest public tracks from all over the world tracks from your country are displayed on our main page.

Visit Map page of GPSed.com as a registered user and find some changes in a Search tab also. A new Predefined search with the tracks from your country appeared.

The country of each visitor is determined by IP-address of his computer. Try it and you’ll see the latest tracks from
the country of your origin or the country where you are located in just now!

This will help you to learn more about routes by other users which are very closely from you!

We hope this feature will bring you much fun and interest. As always, we are very glad to get comments from you!

Sincerely yours,
GPSed Team

We have great news for all of you who are tracking your impressions using J2ME phones. A new version of GPSed appeared for your devices!

Still don’t have GPSed on your device? Install GPSed Mobile for J2ME v. 3.5 and you will not regret. If GPSed is already installed on your device you can try the recent 3.5 version which we believe is even much better that the previous.

What have been changed?

Users of Sony Ericsson phones had troubles with GPSed Service before. The internal GPS receivers on this devices refused to provide the opportunity of GPS using. This bug was fixed and now people with latest Sony Ericsson phones, like Sony Ericsson JP8, could enjoy GPSed Service as well as the others.

Tracks could be exported now in GPX format (the most popular format for GPS tracks) right in GPSed application. This is also a new feature which was absent in the last versions of GPSed for J2ME phones. This was added in the track list menu as  “Export to GPX” menu item.

A new option “Keep backlight always on” was added in Settings. This option is disabled by the default. Enable it and have a backlight always on. Could be useful for people who want to conduct current speed monitoring, check current coordinates, travel distance, etc during the trip.

We have no doubts you’ll like the new version. Download it and leave your comments here.

With kind  regards,
GPSed Team

In our previous post we promised to describe a new geo-searching function on GPSed map toolbar. This feature is hot and deserves our special attention! The search bar is located directly below the toolbar.

The result or your request is displayed on a map with the detailed information including country and localityflag of the country and geographical coordinates. Concerning coordinates a new option was included in Settings. Now you can change decimal format of coordinates which is standard for Google Maps into DMS format (degrees, minutes and seconds).

Using geo-search you can search everything you like: any countries, states or provinces, cities, towns, addresses and even streets with the exact house numbers. Besides geo-referenced search you can find places of interest in all parts of the world! Type the most famous places of interest in a search bar of the toolbar (White House, Eiffel Tower or Statue of Liberty) to see how it works.

Put your mouse on the search bar and wait for a while. A tooltip with explanations and examples of correct search requests will appear. Use this information to make a correct search of localities you’d like to see on the map.

Make double click on the search bar to remove previous request (or in other words to remove a marker from the map). Try it and you’ll see how it easy, fast and useful.

The Google Geo Search algorithm which we use could provide a list of different localities all over the world with the same titles. Now you will see only one locality from this list on GPSed. In future we are planning to show all results for you to choose the correct one.

Here we want to share with you our joy concerning GPSed website update. Now you can use a new “Map Toolbar” which we believe will make your work with GPSed easier. The toolbar itself is nice and useful. In this post we’ll describe you how it works in details.

The toolbar appears on each GPSed page containing maps (e.g. on the track’s page, on the GPSed Map page, on user’s profile page, etc). Every time you work with a map on GPSed you can switch on/off all the layers using the new toolbar.

You can see how it works by yourself. Go to GPSed Map page and start selecting different layers:

  Show/hide Popular GPSed tracks

Select this layer and popular GPSed tracks will be resembled on the map. This option is not new but now you can easily switch it off. By default the layer “Popular GPSed tracks” is disabled in order to speed up map loading. Read one of our older posts “Discover GPSed tracks from worldwide easily!” for more information about “Popular GPSed tracks” layer. Using this layer you’ll search public tracks by other users all over the world without any difficulties. You can select an area which is most interested for you at the moment and find existing tracks by other users there.

Show/hide Panoramio photos

The layer “Panoramio photos” have been improved recently. Now these photos are loading faster, the number of photos was greatly increased and the most popular photos are displaying bigger than the others. Now you can easily search popular and nice photos all over the world!

  Show/hide Wikipedia articles

This option is absolutely new, it could be compared with “Panoramio photos”.  Here instead of photos you can find Wikipedia articles on the map. Wikipedia layer helps to get additional information on locality you are interested in. Use this layer and improve your knowledge, learn more about places from where your tracks originated.

Show/hide track markers

With this toolbar button you can switch on/off all track markers: start and finish of the track (for ordinary and semi-transparent tracks), waypoint and photo markers. In some cases such markers could be a bit distracting and overlap some of the track points. Use the button to see GPSed tracks “clean”, without any additional information.

Show/hide national flags with useful information

Using the new map toolbar you can switch on/off the flags of each country on a map. We recommend you to read one of the past posts in GPSed Blog under the title “Explore the world, explore the countries“.
