See more tracks at a glance!

Meet hot update on GPSed.com. Now our users have new and very useful possibility to search GPSed tracks all over the world right on a map!

To find GPSed tracks directly on a map please sign in to your GPSed account and zoom a map in a place you like. On a certain zoom level you’ll  see semi-transparent track lines. These are the tracks by other users which are situated in a visible area. Put mouse cursor over the one of these lines and it’ll become wider (doesn’t work under IE). Click on a track to get it’s details:  author, distance, duration, geo information (country, area and city) and track’s content information, including number or waypoints, photos and comments. In this dialog you can open track or view it in details.

Surely not all GPSed  tracks are visible on a certain zoom level otherwise service usage become inconvenient. Only the most popular tracks in the current map viewport are shown.

How can it be useful? You can search for tracks in an area you are interested in, read comments and impressions by other GPSed users. This will certainly help you to create your own tracks or to plan your trip! Another great use case is to discover tracks of other GPSed authors around your own one.

We highly appreciate your comments and feedback!

GPSed became popular, our statistics can prove that!

First of all I want to represent new small feature on a start page - common statistic of GPSed.com service, such a total number of tracks, attached photos, etc.

As of today, our tracks cover 128 countries, this is more then a half of the world! The largest number of tracks we’ve got from United States (6638), Russia (2289), Germany (2231), Ukraine (1513), United Kingdom (1403), Italy (1092) and Canada (1064).

There are also countries with only one track represented on GPSed: Svalbard and Jan Mayen, Armenia, Cambodia, Laos, Malta, Ethiopia, Benin, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Andorra, Botswana, Tanzania, Mozambique and Uzbekistan. I think tracks from such countries can be very interesting. By the way, to find all tracks from exact country you can sign in, open Search tab on /home page, expand “Advanced Search” panel and choose any country from dropdown list.

Do you know that there are 183 tracks at GPSed.com under the title “to work”?

The average speed of people movement to work is 15.6 kilometers per hour and the average distance to the work place is 18.5 kilometers!

If you got interested in various statistic posts in GPSed Blog leave your comments here. All ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Stay in touch with your friends and relatives when you are traveling! Let them know places you’ve visited and your current location. Share your tracks obtained during trips to the Social Networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc!

There are two ways of track sharing:

1. By Internet from web-site GPSed.com

2. By mobile phone with GPSed application installed

Here we’ll discuss the possibility to share tracks from your mobile phone. To post a track to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc you have to enter your login and password. We guarantee that GPSed does not save your logins and passwords to the Social Networks.

Below are few examples of track’s sharing from GPSed Mobile Application, check it out. Images are clickable, so you can look at sharing results in original profiles of corresponding social networks.

Track sharing to Facebook (you will need to add me as a friend to see my profile)

Track sharing to MySpace

Track sharing to Twitter

There are several cases to share tracks from your mobile phone:

  • Before starting to make a new track: User receives a proposition to send a track to his friends to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc to follow him during his trip. In that case the mobile client will send a post to these Social Networks precisely in that time when the first points reach GPSed.com. This way of sharing is realized by appropriated dialogues in a process of new track creation (the user also could disable this function).
  • During track recording: The user have already started track recording and decided to share it with friends. This could be realized in menu by “Upload” and “Share” functions which are valid during track recording.

Several days ago we have updated GPSed Mobile Application for Blackberry version 1.0. This is not a beta-release version now, at last. In this update several bugs were fixed and two features were added:

  1. Possibility to turn on/off backlight right from GPSed application. Could be useful for people who want to conduct current speed monitoring, check current coordinates, travel distance, etc during the trip.
  2. Now it is possible to use “Reset GPS” function in Settings which drops current connection to GPS and starts this procedure from scratch. The feature was added after users’ requests.
  3. In last versions users encountered with difficulties in tracks uploading on the GPSed.com website. Now this bug was fixed!
  4. Wrong conversion in GPX format was also fixed in last version of GPSed for Blackberry.

To download a new version please follow this link or point your Blackberry browser to wap.gpsed.com and follow the instructions.

Looking  forward to your comments and improvement suggestions!

Here we’ll give you some recommendations on how to make your own track and to enjoy it on Internet by yourself and with friends.

To make a track you need GPS unit or mobile phone with GPSed application installed and a digital photo camera. In a case you use photo camera separately from mobile please note that the data and time should be the same on both devices to avoid future mistakes. Choose the nice area and start making tracks and taking photos during your trip.

After that upload your track and photos on your computer. Sign in to GPSed.com. In the upper right corner of your screen press the link “Upload tracks” and find your recent track on your computer (GPX, KML or PLT formats). When the process is finish your track will appear on Google Maps. You can assign your tracks to Communities, read this post for more information!
