May 27th, 2008 by Valery

We are constantly working on improving our Service and along with adding important and demanded by a lot of our users functionality, we are trying to add a little easier but still an interesting functionality.

Let’s name the most interesting features added in the latest updates:

  • Redesigned and much improved Track Searching. Now you can search tracks by country, author, date, search only in Featured Tracks, search only tracks with photos, etc. Besides, search results can be sorted by different criteria, for instance, by creation date, by the attached photos count, by number of views, etc.
  • Ability to choose between measurement units was added. To use this option just login to your account at GPSed.com, press Settings and select the desired measurement unit. Note: the measurement unit on the website is not related to the measurement unit in the application.

Here is a new article in our series that might be useful when using GPSed service.

On this occasion we will talk about Track Popup Menu. This menu appears if you click the track line precisely on the map.

Using this menu you can process almost any operation with this track. For example, you can change the track color, rename the track, send a link to this track via email, export the track to KML format to view it in Google Earth and so on. More than that, the same menu is available from any page on the site, which shows a track, for instance as shown here: “Going home - Rally Finnskog”.

Note: Ability to change a track (for example, rename it) is possible only if you are the author of the track.

We continue publishing articles dedicated to helpful recommendations about GPSed.com service using.

This time we will tell you about track presentation and management. Probably not all users are aware that the color of every track can be changed in our service. To do that just click the square with the title “Color”, located on the right of every track in the “Opened Tracks” list. After that you can choose any available color from the list. This functionality might be very useful when viewing tracks on different places of the Earth, when the track color might be merged with a landscape of the current territory.

Another helpful functionality that can be used for viewing any information about the track without opening a page with details is a “Track Info” window. You can open track information by clicking a small icon in the right bottom corner of each track in the “Opened Tracks” list. You can find a lot of interesting information about the selected track in this window, such as: the city, where the track was started and finished, Device name which was used to record the track, average and maximal speed and some other useful information.

With this post we are opening an article section dedicated to helpful advices how to use GPSed service. We hope our recommendations will come in handy to you so you will enjoy the whole potential of the GPSed service.

Probably not all users of our service know about the functionality of viewing track photos with an easy-to-use and a nice-looking Slide-show. To start the slide-show, a track with attached photos should be selected, for example this one: “Walk trip by Vienna, then switch to Photos Tab (on the right from the track, under the “Track Information” block) and click on the thumbnail of any photo that lies here. The slide-show will start.

You can view other photos of this track manually by clicking “Next” and “Previous”, or you can browse all photos of this track automatically by clicking “Auto” button. When automatic browsing is launched, photos will be viewed in cycles, meaning after the last photo in the list the first one will be displayed and so on. You can stop automatic browsing at any moment by clicking “Stop” button.
