April 30th, 2008 by Valery

In addition to our previous post about GPSed for Windows Mobile beta-release, we want to announce new features on GPSed.com web site.

One feature that we personally believe to be the most interesting is the list of “Featured Tracks” on the main page of the website. This list shows the most interesting and beautiful tracks, selected manually for you by GPSed project team.

Yesterday we’ve made an update of GPSed.com web site to introduce new functionality and some minor UI changes and improvements.

Probably the most interesting new feature is the availability of the list of “Nearest Tracks“. This list shows you up to 5 tracks nearest to the current one. You can find such list on the “track-details” page of any track right under a list of Photos and Waypoints, for example this one: 100km 2008 by Vizael.

Among other changes we’ve added a small icon with the photo camera to list of “Opened Tracks”. This icon will appear near every track which has no photos attached. Clicking on this icon will let you attach your photos to this track from Flickr and Picasa.

We’ve added an ability to detach all attached photos from your tracks. Some of our users requested this functionality and now it’s available. You can detach photos one-by-one also. In order to do this you must click small icon like this Detach, which is located near every attached photo.

By the way, we’ve renamed the starting page from “Map” to “Home”. So, don’t be confused :)

And finally, a feature that I personally like more than any other of the new features in this update, is an updated list of “Other Public Tracks“. Now this list shows you only the tracks from distinct countries. In other words, you will not be able to see two or more tracks from one country in this list.

We hope you will enjoy the improvements we’ve made! Please share your ideas with us by posting a comment or writing to

We have improved to version 0.958 for BlackBerry, so don’t wait any longer and update. It’s free afterall. You may download the new version from GPSed mobile application downloads page.

When recording a track from BlackBerry smartphone you may easily pause and restart the current track or start a new one. If GPS receiver disconnects you may receive an alert and have it reconnect after a few seconds automatically.
Other technical fixes were made.

Additionally, if you are a Java user expect an update this week.
GPSed for Windows Mobile is coming out very soon.

So stay tuned!

Dear GPSed users,

We have some great news - now you can explore maps not only with GPSed tracks and photos, but with photos from Panoramio!

All you need is just to open any track, e.g. this one: “Walk trip by Vienna”, and click on any Panoramio marker right on the map. You can scroll and zoom map and Panoramio photos will be loaded for the region you are currently viewing. Also you can click on any Panoramio photo and read discussions about it. So now tracks surfing’ is more fun and interesting.

As always, there are many other UI and usability improvements, for example: now you can search only within tracks with photos. To do this you need to enable checkbox “Search only with Photos” in Search tab.

Additionally, two new features were added.

  • View the device that recorded the track

As always we are working on adding more features and making improvements in GPSed. You may be the first one to learn about them. Just sign up for GPSed blog RSS.
